WEEK 15 - Hello Taper!
Happy Tuesday, MIT!
HAPPY TAPER! You may have heard this term thrown around by a few of us at MIT. Tapering is the act of significantly reducing your training load for one to two weeks to optimize your race-day performance.
There’s this moment that hits darn near all of us as race day approaches. It's always around this time -- two-weeks out from race day --- when it's hard not to second guess everything you’ve done or not done in the build up to the race. You might be tempted to pick apart your training, looking for all the flaws in the plan.
Exhale.
Remember that your training can not be summarized by one particular long run or one key workout, but rather your preparedness is a summation of all the training (and resting) you’ve done to get to this point. Trust me, you’ve done plenty. It does all stack up.
So let's stay the course. Focus on our sleep, recovery, and mental preparedness.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
-
THIS SATURDAY! We will have our screen-printing machine going in full force! Bring your race-day singlets and shirts to get an MIT logo to rep our team out on the course!

FIT FOR LIFE PHYSICAL THERAPY EDUCATION CORNER
When and Why Should I Use The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill?
Chelsea Hall, PT, DPT
The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill was developed to rehabilitate leg injuries with less stress to joints and muscles. Since it reduces gravity’s impact, it also provides a safe way to exercise more intensely for higher mileage weeks, while unweighted!
Chelsea Hall’s article will help you learn more about the AlterG. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. At the University of Kentucky for her bachelors, Chelsea competed in Cross Country and Track & Field, earning All-American status, was an SEC champion twice, and is now in the UK Athletics Hall of Fame. As a marathoner, she is a top 50 finisher at Boston & Chicago.
Fit For Life Physical Therapy is proud to be the Official MIT and Fleet Feet Sports Medicine Partner. We care for people of all activity levels — to help prevent, recover from, or rehabilitate athletic injuries. BOSTON MARTHON
CONGRATS TO ALL MIT MEMBERS WHO RAN BOSTON!
Congratulations to several of our members and coaches who ran the 128th Boston Marathon yesterday!
This mighty crew not only showed a tremendous amount of GRIT in rather warm conditions, but a whole ton of heart in the way they carried with them the memory of their close friend and fellow MIT member, Paul Stoodley, by writing his BIB number 17303 on their bodies in his honor.
We were so grateful to have such a wonderful crew of runners and humans representing MIT on their journey from Hopkinton to the finish line on Boylston. If you see them, give them a big smile and warm congrats!
MIT T-SHIRT PICKUP
Didn't have the chance to pickup your MIT T-Shirt? Pick them up on 4/20 at our Saturday Long Run or Wednesday 4/24 at GRIT WORK!
