Week 10 of Training
You’re now well over halfway through the season: week 10 of our 18-week journey! For our marathoners, this is a build week, which means the miles are climbing and the work is stacking up. It’s the perfect time to lean into the essentials: prioritize nutrition, hydration, and rest to fuel recovery and keep your training strong.
Your MIT team, Fleet Feet Columbus, Fit For Life Physical Therapy, and our expert partners are here to keep you healthy, motivated, and race-ready with smart strategies and supportive community energy.
📌 Long Run Location Update: Run Columbus Run @ The Hills Market!
Mark your calendars! On Friday, September 13th, join us for Run Columbus Run starting from Hills Market! Our first 20 miler of the season, this is a perfect chance to celebrate your progress, log some miles with friends, and keep the momentum rolling. We will have bagels, brews, and New Balance Hype! You don't want to miss this. More info to come next week!
🦵 Injury Prevention & Recognition
This week, we’re spotlighting hip health. Dr. Darrin Bright dives into Dead Butt Syndrome: what it is, why runners are prone to it, and how to protect yourself. Plus, Joe Simko from Fit For Life Physical Therapy shares treatment and prevention strategies to keep you balanced and strong.
🧠 Train Your Brain
Mental toughness is forged in the hard miles. This week, Nita shares her insights on getting comfortable with discomfort (a skill every endurance athlete needs!). Learning to welcome those challenging moments instead of resisting them can transform not only your training, but your race day confidence.
Every mile is adding to more than just race day. Those miles are building a stronger, more resilient you. Keep showing up. You’re doing the work, and it’s paying off.
See you tomorrow,
Hannah

DEAD BUTT SYNDROME
& Related Inuries!
It’s that point in the MIT season! The miles are stacking up, the long runs feel longer than ever, and little aches (hello hips and glutes 👋) start making themselves known. This is the stage of marathon and half marathon training where strength, flexibility, and balance in the hips matter more than ever. When even one muscle group falls out of sync, the whole system pays the price, and that’s when issues like “Dead Butt Syndrome” can sneak in.
This week, our MIT medical team is putting the spotlight on hip health with Dr. Darrin Bright’s article on Dead Butt Syndrome and Joe Simko’s insights from Fit For Life Physical Therapy.
Dr. Darrin Bright isn’t just our MIT Medical Director: he’s our go-to RunDoc! A legacy pace coach, he helps shape our season-long education program, offers injury advice, and keeps a close eye on weather and safety to protect our community. Beyond MIT, Dr. Bright is a primary care sports medicine physician who specializes in runners, triathletes, and cyclists, bringing both expertise and firsthand experience from countless marathons. He also gives back in a big way, serving as medical director for major races like the Columbus Marathon, Cap City, and Emerald City, working alongside city officials to keep athletes safe.
Thank you, Dr. Bright, for everything you do to keep us running strong!
Fit For Life Physical Therapy are proud to be the Official MIT and Fleet Feet Columbus Medicine Partners. We care for people of all activity levels — to help prevent, recover from, or rehabilitate athletic injuries.
