Newsletter Week 12
Hello MITers!
Congratulations to everyone who ran Grandview Yard Half, Quarter or 5k on Sunday! We had several time PRs, distance PRs, and goals met! Whether Sunday was your day or not, we see you showing up for yourself and putting your grit to the test. The same goes for everyone who reached major milestones at Saturday's long run. When the conditions were tough, you persevered, and I am so proud!
Just a few reminders/announcements as we head into the week:

FIT FOR LIFE PHYSICAL THERAPY
What if your “Achilles Heel” was really pain in your Achilles’ tendon?
From mythology, you may recall that when Achilles was an infant, his mother dipped him into the river to make him immortal. But since she held him by one heel, this spot did not touch the water, so he remained vulnerable, and it was here that Achilles was mortally wounded.
We refer to pain in the back of your lower leg where the gastrocnemius and soleus merge to form the Achilles’ tendon as Achilles Tendonitis. This has been an extremely hot topic on the trail, in the stores, and at our FFL clinics. This week we’ll learn more about Achilles Tendonitis.
Fit For Life Physical Therapy are proud to be the Official MIT and Fleet Feet Sports Medicine Partner. We care for people of all activity levels — to help prevent, recover from, or rehabilitate athletic injuries.
TRAIN YOUR BRAIN
The Mental Health Component of Dealing with Injury, by Dr. Heather Bechtel, MD.
We all like to feel well and chase our running & walking goals. Little aches and pains can happen, and sometimes quick fixes or minor tweaks with shoes or gear are all that is needed to keep us on the road, trail, or treadmill.
But what if it is something more? When you have a more serious or chronic injury, it can put a damper on your season. This can also be tough mentally. Depending on the injury’s severity, your social calendar and your very identity as an athlete can be challenged. So how does one cope with a more significant injury? Read more on how to cope with injuries.
